ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Works directly with a Sourcing Manager, the Agricultural Management team and Corporate Planning to develop and implement strategy for purchasing contract processing services to convert raw materials into a format used by our plants (IQF, Canned, Special Packaging, etc.) or finished goods.
  • Engages contract processors to focus on quality, supply assurance and optimization of the supply chain.
  • Works closely with Quality to ensure quality issues are resolved and corrective action is implemented.
  • Works with Material Planning to ensure material is released according to MRP requirements.
  • Maintain processes and procedures necessary to support the planning and scheduling activities related to contract processing; which include coordination of purchasing, production control and inventory control per MRP.
  • Ensure all contract processed materials are available in order to support delivery schedules and manufacturing objectives. 
  • Coordinate movement of freight with the Logistics Department.
  • Communicate timely and effectively with all levels (managers, supervisors, leads, etc.); relaying critical information.
  • Works closely with Inventory Control to manage all processing data, material movements and inventory located at outside processors. Responsibilities include following up on daily receiving discrepancies, monthly inventory reconciliations, and year-end inventory audit.
  • Works with the Accounting department to reconcile invoice discrepancies related to outside processing to assure timely payments.
  • Provide support and assistance to the receiving and inspection personnel in problem resolution.
  • Continuously monitor and upgrade co-packer’s performance and maintains good co-packer relationships.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Sourcing Management Team.
  • It is the responsibility of all employees to uphold the mission of the Food Safety and Quality Policy.  This includes following all Food Safety and Sustainability programs and participating in all required training.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS  

A successful candidate will have the following skills / knowledge sets:

  • EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:   Bachelor's degree (B. A. or B. S.) from four-year college or university or equivalent experience in Purchasing preferably in the food industry.  At least 2 years technical level expertise in principals of procurement in a production environment.  Technical level expertise in planning, negotiation and contracting for materials.
  • LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. 
  • MATHEMATICAL / COMPUTER SKILLS:  Ability to analyze and solve basic math and algebraic problems.  Capable of using the computer as a tool: Excel spreadsheets, word processing and presentation skills.  MRP experience preferred.
  • REASONING ABILITY and CREATIVITY:  Ability to creatively solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.  Excellent time management and organizational skills.  Proven ability to work in a fast-paced team environment essential, with a high degree of flexibility and tolerance to change.
  • OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: 
    • Knowledge of organic growing practices and experience with quality control standards for organic field crops preferred
    • Ability to organize and manage a large amount of data and experience in multitasking
    • Able to maintain a positive attitude in a fast moving ever changing work environment
    • Excellent interpersonal skills: able to work with senior management, growers, and processors.
    • Highly developed written and oral communication skills.
    • Excellent time management skills. 
    • Experience purchasing dairy ingredients would be strongly desired.
